Andrew: “I give up! Take my picture if you must, but, I don’t care how cute my outfit looks with the Pooh bear feet, I’m NOT cooperating, and I’m DEFINITELY not smiling.”
One month down…
It seems like an eternity ago that we were simply “expecting,” and not “parents.” The last 31 days has brought us joy, anxiety, relief, tiredness, happiness beyond words, and an unshakable belief in the miracle of life. From my point of view, every day is a day of new discoveries. I’ll leave for work in the morning, and return 12 hours later to find Andrew a little bit bigger, a little bit more active, and a whole lot more lovable. Like watching bamboo grow (the fastest growing plant in the world), it almost seems that Andrew gets bigger just sitting there. Don’t blink, or you’ll miss it!
The past month has also brought some introspection. It seems that there are a lot of “firsts” stacked up early – first week, first month, first steps, first words, first birthday. This time flies by so quickly. A friend was describing a visual to me – if you put your life on a big pie chart, the time spent raising a child from birth through the toddler years is but a miniscule slice of the pie. It sure feels that way. Milestones are reached and passed, but in the daily grind of home and work life, it sure feel like raising a child is like drinking water – a necessary routine; no big deal. But it is a big deal. It’s on milestone days like these that we are forced to stop and think of how far we’ve come, of the things we’ve accomplished, and the achievements we’ve made. I look forward to the future, be it more “firsts,” or just drinking more water.

I think we hit the jackpot with Andrew!

Kelly, Janelle, Abraham, Kathlyn, Stephen, and Andrew.
Kelly and Janelle hosted us on Andrew’s one month birthday. They cooked up a feast fit for a baby… well, at least fit for a baby’s parents! I cherry-picked the two photos above from Kelly and Janelle’s site – thanks guys!

Stephen, Kelvin, Andrew, and Michael.
Kelvin and Adah took us out to dim-sum, and we had a chance to compare notes on child-rearing. Actually, the truth is that we mined Kelvin and Adah for their insight and advice, since Michael is two months older than Andrew. See their blog: Little Junior Chung!
